Now this is a long story, but I'll try to be brief.....this Porsche 912 generator is the smaller size of a 6 volt generator but its 12 volts. Back in the seventies, I located a brand new one (when Bosch runs out of rebuild able cores, they often will substitute a new unit for the rebuilt price). The generator has little grooves on the body that for some reason I thought it would be cool to chuck the body up in a lathe and machine off. This created 2 problems......the decrease in diameter had to be made up using shims on the generator stand and that smooth surface, now 30 years later, had rusted. I tried cleaning up the rust, but it left stains and looked bad. My answer was to use this stainless steel cover, cut it down to size, and use adhesive to attach it. |
