The clutch cable is in a tube that is in the middle of the tunnel, not on the driver's side like later cars. This makes it extremely difficult to attach it to the pedal assembly because when you try to align the assembly up with the bolt holes, the cable is at such an angle that it slips off the clutch pedal hook. Later models, I just use some thread to tie the cable to the hook and because the cable is closer to the pedal, it's not so prone to slip off during assembly.
